Kod svitaka s izmjeničnom strujom potrošnja struje u fazi pritezanja znatno je viša nego u fazi zadržavanja.
Potonje se zbog toga ne smiju nikada koristiti bez magnetne jezgre jer u tom slučaju postoji opasnost od pregrijavanja i svitak može pregorjeti.
Do sličnog efekta dolazi kada se ventili koriste s magnetima za izmjeničnu struju s vrlo visokim taktnim frekvencijama (uklj./isklj.). Time se svici često nalaze u području visoke potrošnje struje i također se mogu previše zagrijati. Za ove primjene preporučuje se uporaba RC svitaka s utikačem ispravljača.
Kod svitaka na istosmjerni napon kod isključivanja može doći do vrlo visokih vršnih napona. Zbog toga preporučujemo da se kod ovih svitaka koriste utikači sa zaštitnim krugom.
